A venture into Moxie Salon is an experience for everyone to enjoy. We’ll ensure that you are relaxed, educated and understood.
At Moxie Hair Salon & Art Gallery we are devoted to the community and to our staff. From weekly on site education to Hair Raising Events and fund raisers, we are constantly coming up with ways to keep everyone involved. Moxie is committed to excellence and to making the world a better and more beautiful place.
Community Involvement
Moxie is dedicated to giving back to the community. Each and every year we host Hair Raising Events in which all of our staff donate their time and talent to cut hair for a cause. All of the funds that we generate from these events are donated to selected non-profit organizations. In recent years we’ve supported local non profits such as B-Girl Be, Lift Kids, MN AIDS Project (MAP), Street Works and the Kulture Klub Collaborative. We are also a proud sponsor of The Great American Sleep Out, in which our staff collects pledges and sleeps outside in front of the salon to raise awareness and funds for homeless youth.
Art Gallery
At Moxie Salon, we believe that hair is a medium to create beautiful art. To keep creativity alive, we surround ourselves with the work of a new artist every six weeks. The environment is captivating for our clients because they get to see something different each time they visit our salon. This is a wonderful way for us to draw inspiration and to help artists display their work. Any profit from sold art work goes directly to the artist.
Apprenticeship and Education
At Moxie, we give our staff the tools they need to be successful. Every Monday, the salon is closed for education. We have three educational phases that take six to nine months to complete. During this process, employees are paid a salary.
Intro– Newly hired employees will go through the basics of customer care, front desk, blow drying, finishing and long hair.
Phase I– Fundamental foundation cutting. During working hours, apprentices shadow our stylists.
Phase II– Apprentices graduate to Junior Stylists and are on the floor cutting and building clients, shadowing on their down time. Class time consists of advanced cutting, chemical services, color, perm, relaxers and more customer service. After completing Phase I and Phase II, staff graduates out of the program and begins offering all services to clients.
Phase III– Advanced education on a monthly basis for all employees. During these classes, staff works on the creative end of hairstyling. We focus on hair and fashion shows, editorial work and new cut and color techniques. In Phase III, stylists learn new innovations from Paul Mitchell through staff members that are National Educators, and through Stephen Adams, Salon Owner and member of the JPMS Platform Artist Club.
